Hola Spain!

Hola Spain!

Last night we arrived in Madrid ahead of the Coca Cola Music Festival the band are headlining tonight. I had been so busy the past week with the DVD and other edits that I had to make the new screens for this show, last night...So that translated to bed at around 4am for me, and then up at 8 to go to soundcheck and start loading in screens and timecode.

When we arrive, I go straight to the dressing room, dump my bag, pick up my hard drive, a USB 3 cable incase there Mac doesn't have thunderbolt ports and find the video guy. Once I find Caco, I realise pretty quickly this isn't going to be easy, he speaks very little English, and I speak a lot less Spanish! At first after a long debate between three Spaniards, I am told "You work this, you do the videos!" This is what he points at...

Entering timecode into the system

Entering timecode into the system

Now, i'm in no way a 'Video Tech', this is a member of many crew party's that solely works interfaces like this and makes the videos that someone else makes (me) work in time to the timecode and therefore work in time to the songs. So, once I make it pretty clear (by waving my hands around mostly) that I can't operate this system, we go to plan B (well they do, at this point I have no idea what's going on). By 130pm we realise the system isn't picking up the video files so Caco tells me to go away and come back at about 330pm, I think he could sense my nervousness about the whole situation. I check he has the right timecodes and the videos in the correct place and leave him to work on it while I head back to the hotel for a few hours.

The show goes great, the screens work, I input a lot on lighting, the boys play a great gig to 15,000 Spanish fans and around 3am I hit they hay, setting my alarm for 730am to get up and catch tomorrow's flight from Madrid to LA via Heathrow.
